Our client approached us with a vision to transform their existing home in Mosman, embracing modern living while navigating local council height restrictions. To achieve this, we introduced a stepped design concept, working with the site’s natural slope rather than against it.
The project began with a full demolition, paving the way for a carefully designed two-storey home that maximises space, functionality, and stunning views. To minimise excessive excavation and maintain structural integrity, we divided the site into three distinct zones.
- The outdoor area – features a private swimming pool, positioned lower to prevent future waterproofing issues.
- The main house – designed with an open-plan layout to embrace natural light and connectivity.
- The garage and storage – A separate unit from the main dwelling, ensuring seamless access without impacting the home’s architectural flow.
The ground floor is centred around an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area that extends effortlessly onto a deck-offering expansive views of the suburb and direct access to the pool. The design integrates an open staircase, featuring a striking window on the landing, creating a light-filled focal point while elevating the home’s exterior presence. Additionally, a guest bedroom and study area were incorporated to cater to the family’s needs.
On the first floor, the master suite becomes a private sanctuary, complete with a walk-in wardrobe, ensuite and built-in window seat to take full advantage of the suburb’s views. Two additional bedrooms, along with a secondary living space, provide a cosy yet elegant family retreat, opening onto a balcony that enhances the home’s sense of luxury.
This home’s design not only aligns with Mosman’s prestigious character but also respects the area’s environmental and height limitations. By adopting a tiered approach, we successfully delivered a contemporary family home that blends seamlessly with the landscape-offering a balance of modern elegance, functional design, and effortless indoor-outdoor living.
